The Collect for the day O God the king of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph into heaven: we beseech you, leave us not comfortless, but send your Holy Spirit to strengthen us and exalt us to the place where our Saviour Christ is gone before, who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen Post Communion Prayer Eternal God, giver of love and power, your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into the world to preach the gospel of his kingdom; confirm us in this mission, and help us to live the good news we proclaim through Jesus Christ our Lord Amen For the time being some services continue to be held in St Lawrence’s Church Hall – until the weather becomes a bit warmer.. The Ascension Leo the Great died in 461 and was an eloquent and wise preacher, using simple gospel texts to proclaim the Christian Faith. He had this to say on Ascension Day. “At Easter, it was the Lord’s resurrection which was the cause of our joy; our present rejoicing is on account of his ascension into heaven. With all due solemnity we are commemorating that day on which our poor human nature was carried up in Christ above all the hosts of heaven… faith was increased by the Lord’s ascension and strengthened by the gift of the Spirit; it would remain unshaken by fetters and imprisonment, exile and hunger, fire and ravening beasts…It is a faith that has driven out devils, healed the sick and raised the dead.” We need that faith today. Cardinal Basil Hume wrote. “Our present day confusion and lack of unity within the State, within secular society, reveal the need for discovering a common vision, an agreed understanding about the nature, the dignity and the rights of man. This will be impossible without a recognition of the spiritual dimension in each individual.” So as we pray in the Post Communion prayer “Eternal God giver of love and power, your Son Jesus Christ has sent us into the world to preach the gospel of his kingdom; confirm us in this mission and help us to live the gospel we proclaim.” The Sick list We are needing to bring the sick list up to date. There is a sheet of paper at the back of Church. Will you please write down the names of any you know who are in need of our prayers. They will be remembered each day at daily prayers St Lawrence’s PCC next Tuesday St Lawrence Parochial Church Council (PCC) meets at in the Church Hall next Tuesday (22nd May), 7.30pm.
